July 2023 Update Log7/19/2023 Happy Summer holidays everyone! (In Scottish education anyway).
I've been plodding away on the woodwork course and have finished the 'Field Notes' for machine tools. There are probably lots of typos, so if you spot any please let me know. Like the previous units there are a series of projects and drawings to go along with it. I've not uploaded these yet - largely because we are in the process of moving house again. We are still still staying in the same village, but moving to a house that better suits our needs. Always something happening. Hope you are all well, Scott

May 2022 Update Log5/23/2022 Hello stranger! It has been a little while since my last update - I'm sorry about that. I've had a lot going on personally and professionally. It has been an shockingly busy year, and I have been very lucky to work with some incredible people that have helped me to get through it. Without their professionalism, understanding and compassion it would have been so much harder. I can't thank those people enough, and I will miss them. In other news, my family and I are on the move! Those that know me personally will know that my wife and I have wanted to 'escape' the central belt for many years. We have always wanted the countryside and all that it brings. We figured it was time to give it a try! We are both about to work at the most incredible school (jumping from one amazing school to another is like winning the lottery!). We are also going to be living in a bit more of a dramatic place... Anyway, I will hopefully by updating this site a bit more regularly - at least with blog posts. In the meantime, I thought I would share some of the new woodwork resources I have made. 12 projects covering 'frames' and 'carcases', along with 'field notes' booklets for both. Let me know what you think. As always, I hope you are safe and well. Scott July 2021 Update Log7/11/2021 Okay, I know I have been bad at updates. To be fair, this has been the most challenging term in my 15-years teaching. With the sheer volume of marking, moderation and verification, I have been struggling to create many new resources. I have lots of 'bits' of projects to finish, but haven't had the time to progress.
Finally I can turn my attention back to making resources. I noticed I had created a lot for Graphic Communication recently, so wanted to make some stuff for practical aspects of our courses. As always a huge THANK YOU to 'Coffee Supporters'. Without you, I would need to close this site. The updates for July 2021. This will be updated on an ongoing basis: Birdfeeder Project (Broad General Education):

Like wood?4/6/2018 Wood is awesome!
Getting students to understand the beauty of wood can be difficult if they are stuck using only red-deal pine. However, wood can be very expensive - especially hardwoods. Well, it may be of interest, but the charity company Scottish Hardwoods, in Fife, Scotland are great at supporting schools and young people get interested in craftsmanship. It is a huge facility set in the Inzievar woods, with some expert craftsmen that love to share their knowledge. they process hardwoods from throughout Scotland for a variety of customers. They can explain the whole process of cutting, drying and preparing wood for a variety of processes. Best-of-all, they have a warehouse with lots of stunning offcuts that they sell for incredibly low prices. This is a facility that I strongly recommend visiting. All opinions here are those of the original authors and do not represent those of DesignClass or any other organisation. Just so you know. This blog will have galleries or work or things I see from my travels. Forgive the typos! :) Archives
